Bloxx Launches World’s First Real-Time Web Filtering Spectacles

Bloxx has created new technology for content filtering
Bloxx the innovator in Web and email security, today announced that it has developed the world’s first real-time Web filtering spectacles. Bloxx Tru-Eye, developed at the company’s advanced research lab in Livingston, uses a unique combination of software and optical technology to filter out inappropriate Web content.
In a few milliseconds the spectacles retrieve and scan the web page being requested and then analyses and categorises the page. Based on the user’s access policy, Tru-Eye automatically darkens or lightens the lenses to prevent or allow the web page to be be viewed on the device. The technology is compatible with all devices including desktop computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones.
“This is ground breaking technology that will revolutionise the Web filtering market,” said Professor Con Jungtivitus, Head of Advanced Research at Bloxx. “We see a number of potential markets but we will initially focus on the parental control market. Now for the first time parents will be confident that children wearing Tru-Eye spectacles will be protected from viewing objectionable or inappropriate websites.”
The spectacles have been under development for two years and the company faced a number of significant technical challenges. For example, the miniaturisation of the computer hardware so that it could fit into the spectacle legs and the rapid darkening and lightening of the lenses were some of the initial development hurdles the research team was faced with.
The company is already in discussions with several leading spectacle manufacturers and high-street Opticians, and anticipates the spectacles will be available in late summer.
