The Internet Watch Foundation Annual Report 2011

Today, The Internet Watch Foundation - with whom Bloxx are partnered - has released their 2011 Annual Report.

The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) is the UK hotline for reporting online criminal content and work internationally to remove online images and videos of child sexual abuse; extreme adult pornography when it is hosted in the UK and UK-hosted non-photographic images of child sexual abuse, such as computer-generated images.

The IWF is innovative in circumventing the techniques used by criminals and collaborate with those at the cutting edge of technology to give them the most effective tools possible to do their work, and give the highest confidence in the figures and trends they publish. Thanks to these resources available to them, the work of the IWF has directly resulted in rescuing three children from their abusers last year and a total of seven from when they first began the work in mid-2010. Also, thanks to the work of the IWF and the online industry, very few child sexual abuse images and videos are hosted in the UK. When content is found to be hosted on UK networks, it is removed typically within 60 minutes thanks to the swift actions of the online industry.
