Background
Based in Arnold, Maryland, Chesapeake Academy offers students in preschool through fifth grade an invigorating education that celebrates intellect and imagination and focuses on creativity, character and confidence.
Chesapeake has 65 faculty members and 290 students and its core values of celebrating childhood, building character, embracing community and kindling creativity are the Academy’s foundation.
The Challenge
Previous to purchasing Bloxx, Chesapeake Academy did not have a web content filtering solution in place. This meant that students could potentially be inadvertently exposed to harmful content whilst in school.
The Academy decided to search for a content filter that could effectively protect its users from inappropriate and harmful material and deliver a safe and productive learning environment for its students and staff.
The Solution
After analyzing a variety of internet filters on the market, Chesapeake decided to go for the Bloxx web filter.
The Bloxx Web filtering appliance uses Bloxx’s patented Tru-View Technology to analyze, identify and block websites quicker and more accurately than other web filters.
In real-time, Tru-View Technology can identify and apply internet policies on web pages, even if a site has never been seen before, ensuring the highest protection for users.
The Bloxx Web filtering appliance lets you customize access to IM and P2P applications as well as blocking file download applications. You can automatically enforce Safesearch on search engines, even when users try to change it.
It also includes a reporting tool to analyse users’ internet usage and anti-malware tools, all as standard.
The Results
It was clear from the beginning that Chesapeake Academy’s main goal, to block inappropriate material from the students, was achieved. The Academy’s IT Coordinator Dan Madison says:
“The Bloxx content filter has given me complete peace of mind that no harmful material is getting through to students’ PCs. We don’t want the kids accidently coming across inappropriate websites when they’re doing innocent searches on search engines, for example.”
“Now, with Bloxx in place this problem has been eradicated. Tru-View Technology is great at filtering sites and I’m now completely confident that the students are learning in a safe online environment.”
“The ability to report on users’ internet access is very useful, especially when teachers have queries on particular students and I can quickly give them the information and statistics like browse time, number of sites blocked, etc, they need.“
“The Anti-virus, anti-phishing and spyware filtering are great additional features; they give me peace of mind that my network has that extra level of protection against these online threats,” concluded Madison.
